“Absolutely beautiful house and garden, wonderful quiet street.
Very comfortable stay and lots of room! There was everything we needed in the house and lots of great parks and walks very nearby. Communication with the team was very fast and very helpful. We hope we can return someday! Thank you.”

Fantastically useless facts: There are ALWAYS six ravens that protect the Tower of London

According to legend, if the ravens ever leave the Tower of London, both the Tower and the Monarchy will fall. That would be a shame, the Tower has been there since 1078, and the Monarchy has been going since 893. So to be safe, seven ravens call the Tower home today (they keep one spare). Their names are Jubilee, Harris, Poppy, Georgie, Edgar, Branwen, and Rex (as of 2024) - just in case you are stuck for conversation at a diner party.

Some other interesting things about the Tower, and Ravens:

  • Caretakers: A Yeoman Warder, also known as a Beefeater, is responsible for caring for the ravens. This person is called the Ravenmaster.

  • History: The earliest known reference to captive ravens at the Tower is from 1883.

  • Charles II: Charles II, who ruled in the late1600s after the Reformation, is thought to have been the first monarch to insist that the ravens be protected.

  • Skepticism: Many historians believe the "Tower's raven mythology is likely to be a Victorian flight of fantasy".
