“Our family had a great country-retreat style holiday at
the cottage. It is in a beautiful estate with horses and an incredible Manor House. The beauty of the surrounding is like a postcard. The kids loved it. The cottage was a lovely place to stay with a big private garden.”

Fun things to see in The Cotswolds

  • It is thought the Tetbury Woolsack Races originated in the 17th Century by young drovers showing off to the local ladies by running up and down the hill carrying an enormous woolsack. The race still runs to this day where competitors carry a 60 pound sack of wool up this very steep hill

  • You can see the tallest hedge in the country in Cirencester. The 300-year-old yew hedge surrounding the Bathurst Estate is over 40 feet tall. It takes around 80 man hours for a team of two to give the hedge its annual trim

  • When the Romans arrived in AD47 they built many straight roads. You will see plenty of them still in use today, the most evident is the Fosse Way on the escarpment towards Stow-on-the-Wold. Supposedly they made them straight to avoid being ambushed on corners!

  • Cirencester was the second biggest Roman town in Britain. Until quite recently it actually had a larger population in Roman times

  • The village of Bourton-on-the-Water sometimes has more visitors than residents during popular events such as the annual river football match every August
